This is Sasha (pronouns he/him/his). He is preparing to get top surgery this year after his first consultation with Dr Spencer Eagan on September 3rd. This is a procedure he has been desperately wanting for over 3 years and has been thinking about for even longer.
This surgery is not covered by insurance as the insurance company does not consider it medically necessary, but this surgery will be life saving and necessary for him to live a life unburdened by debilitating dysphoria. Over the years his dysphoria has exacerbated his severe depression to the point of multiple suicide attempts. His only way to alleviate chest dysphoria is a chest binder, a constricting piece of clothing that causes compression of the lungs, can cause rib damage, respiratory issues and many other complications. Top surgery is critical for his mental and physical health.
He is asking for donations to support the considerable financial cost. He is in tremendous debt to his university, relies on food stamps, and has been denied SSI (disability income). All donations will go to hospital bills, consultation costs, and a two day hotel stay following the surgery. Any extra funds collected will go towards living costs for the minimum 4 weeks this will put him out of work.
The date of the surgery is to be determined because it will need to be paid for upfront before proceeding. The total surgery fees are $5,500. Any donations will help him reach this goal.
