In January of 2020 our family received some scary news. The doctors found two very large tumors (50 pounds!!!) in my mothers abdomen that were first diagnosed as cancer in situ. After the surgery to remove both tumors, our family decided to get a second opinion, which is when we learned that the tumors were staged invasive cancer and not benign.
My mom has undergone multiple surgeries and is in the middle of receiving chemotherapy to treat what was classified as Ovarian cancer. This process has been extremely exhausting and at times disheartening to all of us. My mom has been a single mother to my 14 year old sister and I, and we are hurting to see her financial burden through all of the costly surgeries and treatments that she receives. The day she got the port placement in her neck was the day that we understood how physically challenging this fight would be for her, and we've had a hard emotional journey since.
I would like to show my mom that we all care about her and are here to support her struggles with any means possible. She has always been the one to be there for anyone in anyway that she can, and I would like to show her that we are all here to come together for her in the way she would for us. Financially, we are absolutely seeing the effects of this illness. Her medications alone are in the hundreds of dollars a month, on top of needing additional surgeries after she finishes chemotherapy. We are extremely grateful to all of our family and friends that have been so supportive, kind, and uplifting through all of this. Even if you are not able to donate, your kindness and even just sharing this post means more to my family than you could know. Thank you all so much, and let's KICK CANCERS ASS!
