Emergency veterinary costs for my 5yr old cockapoo
Donation protected
Update 04/08/25
It's been a couple of rough days but we are seeing the light. Lexi is getting around remarkably well, she's a completely different dog than I brought home Sunday night, that dog I still wasn't sure was going to live. We're currently sleeping in the floor and last night she snuggled me, let me tell you that I felt my heart start piecing back together.
The issues we're having now is she hates taking meds and she's not eating. She hasn't eaten anything and although she's drinking plenty it's not staying down. We have an appt with the vet at 3 today.
I know a friend or 2 has asked why the other dogs owner isn't paying all these costs. The situation is difficult, the owner is family and they offered what they could as soon as it happened. Nobody expected a $4k vet bill. I have currently had to borrow $3437.77 and we'll have several vet visits to come which I'm sure they will help pay towards, I'm just asking/begging so I can take care of the things as she needs them and to pay back the loan that essentially I am responsible for now.
Because of you and your donations I don't have to stress over the cost of today's visit and I appreciate that more than I could ever put into words.
Update 04/06/25
They let us pick Lexi up this evening. She wasn't eating and they felt she might do better when back home with family.
The amout we owed upon pick was less than expected. When give the quote of $4460 last night they hadn't deducted the deposit made. We only had to pay $2037.77 to bring her home. Calls to the vet can stop and any funds donated will be used to repay the family member that was able to pay the balance today. I have attached the receipt from the vet and a current photos.
This is hard for me, I'm not big on asking for handouts but I know that this is something that I would donate to so I'm taking a chance.
Yesterday, Saturday April 5th my dogs were brutally attacked by a much larger dog in our back yard. It was a horrible accident and the dogs owner is devastated, details of how it happened won't change the outcome.
Unfortunately Lexi, my smallest thinks she is a fighter and instead of running she tried to defend her yard. This led to a trip to the Airport Emergency Vet. We expected her to need a few stitches. Turns out she needed several stitches in several locations, 3 drain tubes and 3 holes in her stomach cavity repaired. She in surgery much longer than expected, over 2 hours which gives you an idea of the shape she was in. She is currently still at the Airport Vet and is being kept until tomorrow, at which time my daughter Brittany and I will gratefully bring her and baby her until she's completely healed.
The situation I have is her estimates started at a bit under $800 and have continued to increase. They gave us estimates before taking her back, which I have attached, then called during her surgery to tell us it was worse than they expected and they would have to open her up. They then gave us new estimates and asked if we wanted them to continue, how could we say no, she was fighting so hard to stay alive and she was already under anesthesia. The new estimate they gave was just under $6000, that was before they found the issues in her stomach.
With the help of the neighbor we have made a $2400 deposit, but we know we owe over $4000 to bring her home.
I myself have had some health related issues which has had me in the ER 3 times along with 8 office visits in the last month which resulted in several scans. I'm currently in debt over 3k at the hospital and still have no answers, I'm waiting to see a specialist. This has been a really rough month and I'm extremely overwhelmed, otherwise I would do as I always have and find a way.
I will post a copy of the newest estimate as soon as I have it. I have several before surgery photos but the photo of the baby wipe with fat on it I found in the floor where she hid after getting inside is disturbing enough.
The point of my ramblings is to ask If any of you could spare a few bucks to help with the burden of this bill. I cannot tell you how grateful my daughter and I would be.
