Update March 2026: After Sharon’s kidney removal in 2022, she began chemotherapy. It’s been a very long road. The cancer has spread to her lungs (multiple tumors in the double digits), the remaining kidney, the liver, and her bones. The bone metastases were identified in her pelvis, hip, and arm, all left side. To slow the spread in the bones and stabilize her infrastructure, she underwent a massive surgery that included a partial hip replacement, a rod down her femur (hip to knee), three large screws in her pelvis, and a plate in her arm. She will go back on her chemotherapy soon and also undergo radiation in the surgical areas to help slow the spread/recurrence of the cancer there.

This certainly isn’t how she expected to spend her retirement years, but here we are. She’s tough, but human. There are very hard days and there are good days in comparison. We are hopeful that the orthopedic surgeries will result in some pain relief. She’s also beginning palliative care to help keep her as comfortable as possible.

Thank you so much for the prayers and support. Please don’t hesitate to send her love, but understand that she may not be up to responding to messages. She reads them though and I’d love her to see just how many people love and care about her and how she has impacted her world.

Sharon, a beautiful, healthy, and vibrant wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend, has received the shocking diagnosis of Stage 3 kidney cancer. She’s already endured a stay at the medical center and now she is being treated by a specialist at Emory. The constant back and forth to Atlanta, overnight stays at a nearby hotel for consecutive days of pre-op tests and procedures, unpaid leave from work for recovery, not to mention the medical bills that are already mounting, will certainly all add up quickly. She has a long road ahead and the last thing she needs to be worried about is how to afford all of these expenses that are necessary while she fights for something far more important.

Listen, my mom comes from long line of proud women who try to do it all themselves and never ask for help. It’s frustrating. But I know first hand just how much it means to have even one little worry taken care of so you can focus on treatment and recovery. So I am asking for her. If you want to help, please stop and pray for her. If you have the desire and ability, please consider donating. Every cent would be appreciated and would lighten the burden of a woman whose main concern is to never be a burden herself.

Thank you all for continuing to love, pray for, and support her through this!
