NW Skates for Autism/Scholarships
Donation protected
As most of you know, my life is pretty busy with my four boys, and one of sports that keeps us most busy is Hockey. I am the Vice President of Northwestern Connecticut Youth Hockey, and I am always so proud of how this organization gives back and teaches our kids more than just hockey drills. My Gavin did not have a place to play sports. He was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 3, and it was very difficult for him to participate without breaking down. Northwestern gave him a place by developing a program for children on the Spectrum. We also have our Annual Skate-A-Thon at the Danbury Ice Arena on September 6th. We all come together to raise money for "Autism Speaks" and our Scholarship Program to help the youth continue to play regardless of their financial hardships. It is a time that is filled with fun and prizes, but the best part is our children leave with the "power" of compassion and generosity. It really is a beautiful thing to watch. The last two years were a huge success, and I am hoping that each year gets better and better. This is a completely non-profit event and all donations are Tax-Deductible!! Thank you so much in advance.
