The day before Thanksgiving, my sister Erica, who is a single mom, along with two of her daughters, ages 10 and 6 were traveling to a friends house for dinner while her oldest, age 13, stayed home. On their way there, they ended up getting T-boned on the driver side (see above pic, that's her door) As she was crossing the highway intersection, an oversized truck ran through his stop sign that was turned at an 180 degree angle, because one of the two poles that support the sign was broken from an incident before, which was supposed to have been fixed weeks ago. There where also complaints from neighbors about how dangerous it is, but the city kept putting it off until this serious incident. The driver of the truck paid no attention to the many warnings of a stop sign ahead. The truck ended up pushing Erica's car down the highway until his truck broke down causing her car to fly off his bumper into the middle of a farmer's field, which was about 100 ft. off the roadway. When the truck broke down , the driver abandoned it. He called an ambulance for himself, complaining about stomach pain. He was treated at the hospital and released, but didn't tell 9-1-1 about Erica's car. The guy wasn't even sited! About forty- five minutes later, a couple neighbors, who Erica said were Angels, helped her and her 2 girls. The driver of the truck has minimal insurance and brushed it off to his insurance company as a faulty sign and who knows what else, just to flee from responsibility. I think he was hoping they were dead out there. Also, because of the differences in their stories, his insuranse won't pay her a thing. I'm sure the insurance companies will be battling this one out. Erica was diagnosed with moderate to severe concussion. She has severe nerve pain, has one break and nine pubic fractures. She also broke the fibula on her left leg, sustained internal abdominal bleeding and is also currently managing blood clots. We are blessed that her two daughters walked away with only a few stitches and neck pain. Unfortunately, Erica required the jaws of life to remove her from her car. She was crushed and pinned between her driver door and the middle console. She blacked out multiple times and coughed up blood as she was given CPR. We almost lost her. She told me that she could not open her eyes or speak as she heard her girls asking, "Is my mommy going to die?" and saying, "please don't let my mommy die." Erica spent 2 weeks in the trauma center hospital. She said everytime she took a breath, it felt like knives stabbing her lungs, as she could only speak one syllable per breath. After the hospital stay, Erica was then transported to the hospitals rehabilitation center, to undergo physical therapy, occupational therapy and speach therapy. Erica is now home with continuous therapies and is still in severe pain. Her fractures aren't healing as the doctors expected. It is also very difficult for her to care for her 3 young children at home, one who is special needs. Due to being confined to a wheelchair and walker, Erica is unable to drive since she cannot fully move her left or right leg. So far the doctor said, she is not to bare weight on her left leg . Prior to this accident, Erica was working 50 hrs a week to make ends meet. Now per doctor's orders, she is unable to work for at least 4 months. Every donation is a blessing for my sister's sweet family. It's really hard to see her bills adding up. She recieved her first medical bill and already owes $62,790 total for her two daughter's and herself. Thank you for your support. (Below: Christmas 2018)
