Help us paint a mural!

“What does the word “community” mean to you? When you think of the word, what is the first image or thing that pops into your head?” So begins the journey to design a mural for the Mayor’s office.

I knew that I wanted my office to reflect the community and what better way than to incorporate art by local artists? I reached out to artist and teacher Kayley Quick about creating a project and away we went.

Kayley recruited a colleague, Kate Cochran, and eleven talented teen artists to design and paint a mural in my office. I asked Kayley and Kate how we could incorporate the idea of “community” and they came up with a wonderful brainstorming process using prompts created by Kate. The images, memories, and ideas that developed through this process will help to bring the mural to life.

Next, we’ll all spend a weekend in my office painting!

“Tell us a brief story from your life that represents the community here in Flagstaff. What does it make you think about? What is your favorite memory of Flagstaff? What are some things that make Flagstaff unique?” We spent a wonderful morning describing this place that we all love so much. I can’t wait to see what they create!

I want to offer some compensation for the time and talent of these artists and I’m asking for your help. Can you help me raise $3,000 to pay Kayley and her group of artists? We’re going to start painting in a couple of weeks, so your help now is so greatly appreciated.

The money from this effort will go to Kayley who will then distribute it to all the artists. Thank you!
