Help with Living Expenses
Donation protected
Hi, I am Lori Kelsay. I am a single mom of four kids, one who in 12 and lives at home and one who is 19 and staying with me while she gets herself together. I recently got very ill and was hospitalized for six days. It has been two weeks so far since my release and I am still unable to go back to work. I had pneumonia and they discovered severe anemia, which I had to have two blood transfusions. My doctor has recommended me to a specialist to take care of the anemia, the choices so far involve one of three types of surgery.
My sick pay has run out, and even though others have generously offered to donate some of their sick pay to me, the school district I work for does not allow it as they feel it is discriminatory. I have household bills to pay and no income. I am hoping the doctor will release me part time to work next week when see him, but we get paid on a biweekly basis. This means that any work I do get will not be paid for at least two weeks. I only have child support coming in the month of October, which is $91 a week.
I have had generous friends who have donated meat, paper products, and rides as I wasn't allowed to drive. My parents donated groceries, but they are in their 70's and live 40 miles away and I hate having them come help. They are wonderful, but they have their own health issues and I feel guilty when they do help, even though they insist. I just am looking for some help to get over the next two months, rent is a big issue. I am looking for more affordable housing and going to see if there is any help available from the state. My biggest issue is I do have health insurance through Obamacare, but no disability, and my workplace doesn't offer it to support staff as we are not full-time year round employees. I am employed through the same district during the summer, but that doesn't count. According to the state, I am a seasonal employee and not eligible for unemployment and other benefits.
I do not like asking for help, if it was just myself it wouldn't be so bad, but not with my son especially. I will keep updates about the situation. If you can't contribute, please keep us in your prayers. Thank you,
Lori
