Fundraiser for the Collantes family
Donation protected
Hello everyone! Most of us in this group personally know the Collantes family. Bryan and Tara lives in Winkler with their adorable little boy, Lance. On Monday, their family got some devastating news. Their 17-month-old son, Lance, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. It is one of the most common types of cancer in infancy. He has been through a lot in the past few days.
He has gone through a lot of pain due to IVs and blood tests. He also underwent surgery for bone marrow biopsy (to help determine if the cancer has spread to other organs) and insertion of PICC line (a form of IV access that can be used for a longer period of time so that they won't need to poke him every time to do blood tests and administer medications). They also had inserted a NGT (a flexible tube that is inserted through his nose, into his stomach to decompress his stomach because he was getting bloated and causing him to have trouble breathing), which didn't last long because Lance pulled it out. Because of his pain, Lance's blood pressure had gone up, so the doctors had to give him medications to decrease his blood pressure, as well as Morphine to manage his pain.
Today, I had the chance to visit their family at the Children's hospital. Lance has been having fevers since yesterday, but has remained really strong. Thanks to his mom & dad who are always at his bedside, but mostly to minions! He loves watching them. Perhaps it distracts him from the pain and discomfort from all the contraptions he has.
Despite all these, their family has remained strong together, and their faith in God even stronger than before. Their family is asking everyone to please keep them, most especially Lance, in your prayers. Right now, they are patiently waiting for the results of the biopsy. Please pray that the biopsy will show a favourable outcome for Lance. He would still need treatment (e.g. Chemotherapy) even if the outcome would be favorable, but this will mean that Lance won't have to go through a longer (which could take up to 15 months) and much stronger treatment regimen.
The Collantes family greatly appreciates all your concerns, well wishes, and prayers. They only ask that you include them in your prayers. However, because of their situation, Tara & Bryan have been unable to work to care for Lance. Most, if not all of us here, know how hard it is being away from our families back home in the Philippines (or elsewhere). So we would really like to help out their family in any way we can, and to make them feel that they do have a family here in Canada.
We will be posting a Fundraising event here in the next few days. If you have any ideas, suggestions, or questions please feel free to send a private message to any one of the admins. We would gladly appreciate it. May we respectfully request everyone to ask the admins for updates on Lance, instead of asking the family themselves. We realize that everyone would like to extend their well wishes and prayers to the family, and that is very much understandable. However, let us all be considerate of the family, because they are exhausted and would like to spend more time taking care of Lance than being on their phones to answer calls or messages. Instead, we will be posting updates on how Lance is doing.
On behalf of Bryan and Tara, we thank you for your time and your prayers.
