Help Kayliz Acosta & her Single Mom: Tourette's
Donation protected
Dear friends, colleagues, family and kind-hearted strangers,
Kayliz Acosta is a 15-year-old girl, daughter of Sandra Peña, and was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome when she was 5 years old. Tourette's is a genetic neurological disorder, which causes her to say and do things that she can't control. Tourette Syndrome causes involuntary complex movements called motor tics and vocal tics.
The tics have impacted her massively and have caused problems in almost all areas of her life, including education and social life. At one point her tics were so severe that she struggled to do simple day to day things such as eat a meal or walk from class to class.
As years have pass, her tics have gotten worst. She was taken to a Neurologist that specializes in Movement disorders, he tried every medicine out there that helps control the tics, but it has reached to a point that the medications are not working.
Kayliz goes to therapy every week to help her 'deal' with her tics, but at this point it is not working either.
The tics are so deteriorating that she had to be withdrawn from school (currently, in online school). Her neck hurts because of all the movements, has difficulty to breath because of the constant coughing.
The doctors have decided to try a Surgery called "Deep brain surgery" that is used for patients with Parkinsons, lately it has also been used in patients that have her condition (Tourette’s Syndrome) and would consist of inserting two electrodes deep inside her brain and have a device in her chest. Once she is healing from the surgery (4 weeks after) hopefully then they would turn the device on, and her tics would go down by at least 50 to 60% and she can have a better quality of life.
I am asking you today to donate and support Sandra Pena, Kayliz’s mom, who is a single mother, works full time and takes care of her ailing grandmother and Kayliz.
All donations are greatly appreciated and could change the life of this family.
The money you donate goes a long way:
Post operation care, food, medications, gas... the list is long and as we all know that it takes a village to raise and take care of a child especially with this condition.
Thank you!
