In Memory of Deborah Jane Sistern (Lunt)
As most of you may know by now Deborah Sistern (Lunt) has unfortunately passed away on the 9th December at the age of 52.
In the year 1993, she had a heart failure called cardiomyopathy and as a result of this she had to have a heart transplant at the Wythenshawe Hospital. This turned out to be an emergency and that she needed to have the life-saving surgery soon otherwise she wouldn't have survived past that day. Fortunately for Deborah, a heart was found that same day and was taken to her with the upmost emergency. The doctors back then, when she was only 25, told her family (while she was unconscious) that she only had a 5% survival rate after the surgery. This miracle of a women survived for just over 27 years battling with not only the long term effects of having a heart transplant, but also other conditions that came to her due to the amount of medication she was on.
However, over the past 2 years, she had been slowly deteriorating, but even then that didn't stop her, she still tried to live her life too the fullest with her husband, Mark Sistern, who has been with her since the start and never left her side. She ended up not being able to walk long distances without a wheelchair handy as she would get too tired and she would get large bruises from almost anything all over her entire body, amongst others.
She has inspired people who she loved to donate their organs when they pass on to help other people who are in the same position as she was over 27 years ago. A few years ago, she wrote a letter, that was only meant to be opened when she left us, and in that letter she wanted us (her family) to set up a donation fund for Wythenshawe Hospital New Heart New Start Charity, that not only saved her life but hundreds and hundreds of other peoples lives. The money that will be raised is not only in her memory but it is, also, in memory of others who have lost their lives- some of these people were her friends.
We would like to thank everyone who has been there for us over these past 2 weeks and a thank you to everyone who has donated to this cause. We would also like to thank the young man and his family who donated his heart in '93 to save our Debbie's life and also to the amazing doctor Mr Colin Campbell and his team at Wythenshawe Hospital Transplant Unit.
Love,
Deborah Jane Sistern's Family.
