On Friday May 21st, Jordan suffered a life changing injury while in Tennessee. He fractured his T12 vertebrae which hit his spinal cord. He went into emergency surgery as soon as he arrived at the hospital in order to try and relieve pressure off from his spinal cord. Surgery was over 6 hours long. The surgeon called Jordan’s parents with terrifying news. He told them the surgery went as well as it could, leaving 2 rods and over 8 screws in place. His T-12 was worked on to try to relieve pressure but he didn’t know what the outcome would be. He told us Jordan’s life would be changed forever and he would likely never walk again and would be treated as a paralysis patient.
On Saturday, Jordan started to shock all of the nurses and doctors. He began to regain sensations in his legs but his feet were still numb and he couldn’t feel touch, just pressure. But this was a miracle from what we had heard from the surgeon the night before. He is still experiencing extreme pain due to the extensive back surgery. He has been able to lift his legs the last few days from his hips and a little from his knees. He was also assisted with help to sit up on the side of the bed and when he did he kicked his legs! Occasionally he’s able to get a little movement/twitches in his ankles but no movement/feeling in his feet.
A lot of people would agree with me that Jordan is an unbelievably strong individual who can fight through this. He is one of the kindest people and has always put others first but now he needs everyone’s help to get him back to Michigan. Our biggest step next is getting him into a rehabilitation facility in Michigan and hopefully somehow getting him transported to Michigan. We are working with many doctors, nurses, and case workers on a plan to get him home(back to MI) safely. Right now we just need support, prayers, and any help we can receive being stuck here in Knoxville at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. We will continue with updates when we can. We love you all and we will get him back home.
