Well, here we are again. Most of you know Chompers quite well. His infectious smile, cheerful disposition and ability to find happiness through all of the tough stuff is what makes him so lovable.
Chompers was diagnosed and hospitalized with pancreatitis and diabetes in December. We had a tough road ahead, but it felt like we were getting closer everyday to our goal of getting Chomps stabilized. For the last three months, my life has nearly revolved around getting Chompers healthy.
In the early hours last Tuesday morning, Chompers became very sick, very fast. Thankfully I caught it early and he is able to do outpatient hospitalization for pancreatitis. He is spending his days at Newtown veterinary clinic getting fluids, antibiotics and medications. He spends his nights at home with me. In addition to the pancreatitis, his sugars have become completely uncontrolled and he has ketoacidosis. I thought it would only be a few days and that I would have enough savings in Chompers care account to cover it. This has turned out to not be true. Chompers savings for his care, insulin and diabetic supplies will now be emptied plus some because of his hospitalization. At this point, we are unsure of how much longer he will be spending his days at the vet.
I never dreamed of asking for help with my boy again, but so many have reached out wanting to help him, so here we are. Thank you to everyone for always being here for us. I often think we don’t deserve the overwhelming love, support and care we are given every single day, but then I look at Chompers and realize how much better he makes this world, and he deserves it all.
