The four-day College Media Convention in Philadelphia is recognizing journalists from San Francisco State University's Golden Gate Xpress newspaper for two multimedia projects and newspaper design.
Two projects are finalists in the Best Multimedia News Story and Best Sports Multimedia Story categories, and one is nominated for Best Newspaper Entertainment Page/Spread. Also, one of our editors is a scheduled panelist to speak about her study abroad and international journalism experiences in Denmark.
It is an honor for our paper to be there to receive the awards, as well as represent our work and fellow newswriters in front of a nationwide audience. This is a great opportunitiy for our careers, as well as network and learn new journalism skills.
A series of workshops, keynotes and speakers lead up to the award ceremony Saturday afternoon. This is the first chance for two from our group (both of which are first generation college students) to leave the west coast.
Altogether, there are six of us who seek funding for the convention registration ($90 per person), flight ($500 per person), a hotel room ($800/4 nights) and extra money for food, inner-city transportation and exploration. Our expected budget is $5000 for all of us. Any amount would help!
Thanks from Brad (@bradfocht1), Ida (@idamoj), Lauren (@laurlies), Michael B. (@mdbarba), Michael D. (@mikethejournal) and Will (@carruthers_w)!
