As most of you know, when George was 10 days old he became very poorly with meningitis, since then we raised over £1000 for the Evelina children’s hospital. I am now setting a goal in hope to raise some money for meningitis now.
In July I will be running a half marathon and any money raised from this will go straight to meningitis now.
Meningitis Now is the leading UK charity with 30 years experience, dedicated to raising awareness of meningitis, providing support and funding preventative research. Meningitis is a life threatening, infectious disease that can leave devastation in its wake. Of those who survive, many will suffer life changing after-effects.. We are working tirelessly to ensure a brighter future, where no one dies from meningitis and anyone affected gets the support they need to live a happy, full and complete life.
George’s story;
my name is george, i was admitted into hospital when i was only 10 days old. i was extremely lethargic and wasn't taking my feeds. after lots of scans, blood tests and a lumber puncher it was found that i had enteroviral meningitis,i was extremely poorly and was withholding my breathes, after being put on two different machines to try and help me breathe it just wasn't quite working. i had to be incubated and rushed over to Evelina children's hospital at St thomas in london. The staff here where so caring and kind from the moment they come to pick me up from margate, they gave me a card and a teddy bear from the ambulance team. I had a nurse by my side every second of the day, they would hold my hand, stroke my head and rock me to sleep they made me feel comfortable. Not only did they care for me they made sure my mummy was ok as she was admitted into hospital on the same day as me with a wound infection and had to be discharged to be by my side. The nurses made sure she was seen in london and was checked up on by every nurse even when they handed over shifts. After 4 days of being on the ventilator and in intensive care it was time for me to start breathing on my own, i was getting so stressed with this tube down my throat i just wanted to show everybody that i could do it, AND I DID!:)
george is now 2 years old and thriving we would love to give back in anyway we can!
