Hi, my name is Slim Soledad, a 23yo black trans woman from São Paulo - Brazil, living in Germany for about two years now. I am an artist, performer and DJ.
I've been thinking about writing this for a while now. To be honest this is something very personal to me and I’d rather keep it private, but I have no choice but opening up. I also feel that just now I’m able to understand how vulnerable I’ve become and that I need support to continue my journey towards my transition. So here I am, starting this fundraiser for my gender affirmation surgeries and asking for your help.
I feel very lucky for having people who have always supported me, especially when it comes to my immigration journey. Now I need help to be able to afford something so important to me that I can’t reach alone.
Since I moved to Germany, transitioning became quite unstable and precarious due to all the paperwork expenses and also because of Covid-19. (I’m sure you all can relate in some ways as most of us have lost our jobs).
In this period, I feel that my dysphoria has developed a lot, it’s becoming extremely difficult to live with it and now, more than ever, I need to take action to feel safe with myself and not have to live with these dysphorias within me anymore. I understand that these surgical procedures will help me reach a healthier relationship with myself and especially my mental health.
And even though I'm a bit anxious about creating the fund now, at the same time I know that if I don't do it now I may regret it in the future. Life is very hard and it’s harder when you have a body like the one I do.
These surgeries are survival to me, they are urgent and this has a very important meaning for me to continue. The money raised will cover the expenses of pre-op/exams/surgery/post-op/ as well as flights and accommodation.
