Some context:

Ciao, everyone!  My name is Genevieve and I am the current student life coordinator at the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo, Italy.

The Accademia dell'Arte is a study-abroad school that specializes in the performing arts. Our students have the opportunity to come to Tuscany for three months to study theatre, music and dance.

Most of our alumni can tell you how special the community is that we create here at ADA. For me, it was life-changing. I studied physical theatre in the Spring of 2012 with twenty-six amazing actors and dancers. In our short twelve weeks together, we became a family, and over the past two years, we have continued to be in touch. We haven't had the opportunity to be all together since, but the spirit of my cohort is never far from me.

This summer our lives changed again when we lost one of our own, Sophia Kurek. Sophie was nothing short of phenomenal in every aspect of her life, but her talent and instinct for dance and choreography blossomed as she did during our time in Arezzo. I remember Sophie consistently surpassing her own expectations of herself personally and artistically, a pattern that I never saw her stray from. Sophie died on June 8th, and I have never been more grateful for my ADA family than in the past three months.
