ALS- Family In Need
Donation protected
Recently, the Ice Bucket Challenge has brought a lot of attention to ALS, and we are certainly thankful. Many have reached out to our family and asked how this has helped Shayne specifically. Most of the money raised from the Ice Bucket Challenge will go to research. The ALS association will be able to give us a $1,000 grant towards helping to make our house handicap accessible. Unfortunately, this a minute portion of the cost. The doors are not wide enough to accomodate Shayne's wheelchair. There is no ramp, and the bathrooms are not handicap accessible. Shayne was diagnosed almost 4 years ago now, and can no longer feed himself or even talk without great difficulty and physical exhaustion. Without the necessary accomodations, it will become harder for me to properly care for him. The loss of dignity and independence in the most basic self care tasks are something that is difficult to imagine for those who have never experienced ALS for themselves or with a loved one. Shayne was the sole provider for our family of 5 before this disease struck, and every day has been a struggle. We are so grateful for the support of so many, but we really need help so that we can continue to care for Shayne properly and that he may live out the time he has left in some semblance of dignity. We are forever grateful and thankful for your consideration and support, and whatever amount you can give. Thank you will never be enough, but Thank you!!
