After starting the paperwork over a year ago, I’m finally getting top surgery August 6th. I’m so grateful for this chance! But after considering all of the costs, I’m asking for support to ease the stress of this surgery.
Throughout the last year I’ve waited for weeks/months, cold-calling the insurance company, the surgeon’s office, my clinic, etc. I had to get the doctor’s letters written and sent, then re-written and re-sent. After all the maybes and letdowns, I’m finally there. The only problem now is that I won’t be able to financially support myself through one of the biggest steps to be in the body that is a true expression of myself.
I luckily have the surgery covered in-full by insurance. But I’ll have to leave my 2 jobs and internship for post-op recovery. I’ve been working six days a week this summer doing manual labor. I won’t be able to keep these gigs, though, as I’ll have to find other, less physically demanding work. And in the fall I’ll enter my 2nd year at Mills College, where working is crucial to keeping me financially afloat through the semester.
It’ll take at least two weeks before I can do much more than walk; and another month before I can get back to normal activity (according to the general timeline). The money raised will go towards my rent, utilities, bills and groceries for the month of surgery and the following month. Since I will have trouble taking my pup on as many walks as she needs, I would like to pay the people who help me babysit her. It’ll also cover my surgeon’s recommended supply list for the post-op process.
I appreciate all the help I can get, so thank you so much for reading this and for all of your support!
