We are trying to raise money for a young Wisconsin boy and his family for his legal defense. Nolan is a 13-year-old boy who was wrongfully expelled from the Muskego Norway School District on March 1, 2021 and is currently facing criminal charges for one act of 8th grade stupidity.
Nolan was goofing around at school with his friends and took a gallon-sized ziplock bag (that was handed out by the teacher for a project) and put it on top of his friend’s head for a couple seconds. All of the boys were laughing. Nolan then put it on another friend’s head and the teacher saw it, came running over, and pushed Nolan out of the way. Nolan was sent to the office and thus began the witch-hunt to make an example out of him. When in the office, Nolan sent the “victim” a Snapchat message and asked him if he got hurt, the boy said “no”. Nolan asked him to please tell the school that, as he was probably going to get in trouble. Nolan messaged him multiple times and asked him to please tell the truth. The boy ignored Nolan and decided to go along with the narrative of the teacher. That narrative was that Nolan held the bag down over the boy’s entire head and held it tight around his neck for 1-2 seconds.
Without any attempt to work this out with Nolan and his parents, the school immediately went for expulsion...for a boy with no prior suspensions. The school made no attempt to sit down with Nolan and his parents to get his side of the story. There was zero attempt by the school to try to resolve this for all parties involved. The direct student witnesses were never interviewed by the school. In fact, they said that the school counselor came into the classroom after the incident and told the students they were not allowed to talk about the incident, and if they did, they could be suspended.
Nolan’s parents hired an attorney. On top of the looming expulsion Nolan was being threatened with, there were pending criminal charges against him. Nolan had to get handcuffed and booked at the Muskego Police Department. He was devastated. The criminal case is ongoing and will be fought.
3 brave children, who were direct witnesses to the incident, came to the expulsion hearing with their parents to stand up for their friend and for what is right, as he was being falsely accused of suffocation via ziplock bag. It took great courage for them to do that. One of those witnesses was the first boy that Nolan had put the bag on. He testified that it didn’t hurt him at all, it barely fit over the top of his head and it was just a joke. The other 2 boys stated the same, that Nolan was just goofing around. The witnesses all said the “victim” was laughing also and did not get hurt, as the bag barely went down on his head. The “victim” and his parents were not present at the hearing.
To counter the in-person witnesses testimonies in defense of Nolan, the school claimed that they had spoken with 2 students in the class 2 weeks after the incident and after the expulsion notice. The school would not provide any information on those “witnesses” and no official statements were obtained by the school from said witnesses.
All 3 student testimonies at the hearing were dismissed by the Administration as not credible due to their age. The school administration’s attorney encouraged the school board to expel Nolan and told them that they “shouldn’t take the word of a bunch of 13 year-olds over a teacher”. Sadly, the school board did not do the right thing and advocate for Nolan. They chose to side with the special interests of the district over the well being of all students.
How can a 13 year-old boy be facing charges of suffocation/strangulation with a gallon-sized ziplock bag? The bag is not big enough to fit over the head without ripping, thus making it impossible to suffocate or strangle someone with it. It is not large enough to even reach the neck. No medical attention was sought for the “victim” after the incident and he remained in class. The teacher’s own statement says that after the incident he asked the “victim” if he was ok and he said “yes” and remained in class. All the direct witnesses testified it didn’t go past his eyes, and it was just a joke.
Nolan’s mother is an outspoken Conservative voice in the community. She runs a Conservative Facebook group and often speaks out about her disdain for the Liberal Indoctrination of our children by the school district. It is clear that her son was targeted. In a world full of cancel-culture, Nolan was definitely canceled.
Please help this family fight for their son, his right to public education and to clear his name.
One silly immature mistake should not ruin this boy’s life. His siblings, are also in the school district and have been negatively impacted by what’s happened to their brother. So much so, that the parents had to pull their other middle school son out of that same school Nolan attended because he was no longer comfortable going there. Both younger brothers will be attending a Private school.
