On Friday, September 12th, my oldest son’s entire world turned upside down. Anthony was in town with his beautiful fiancée, Kayla, for his cousin's wedding. At 7:31 pm, Anthony called me to tell me he had been in an accident. He asked that we meet him at the hospital. Now, anyone that knows me would know that I did not go to the hospital. I went directly to the accident scene. Upon arrival, I saw several ambulances and fire crews. Kirkwood Highway was shut down coming into Newark, and coming out of Newark was one lane. As soon as I parked, the ambulance took off with my son inside to Christiana Hospital. This is where their lives were irrevocably changed.

Anthony suffered a compound fracture to his left foot. His bone at the ankle was protruding and bleeding everywhere. As you can imagine, having your foot dangle in a direction that it’s not supposed to can be quite traumatic. You see… Anthony is an ironworker. He walks steel beams all day, every day. Right now, he’s so devastated that he might not be able to return to the job, company, and crew that he’s grown to love. It’s taking up so much of his headspace. Compound that with worrying about providing for himself, let’s just say he is not okay. Anthony is looking at months and months of physical therapy, if the surgeons can even save the foot.

As a mom, watching my son and his fiancée struggle through this is heart-wrenching. I wish I had a magic wand to make this all go away… unfortunately, that only happens in the books I read. This is reality.

I am asking all of my loved ones, if you are able to, please donate. Whether it’s $5 or $50, it would help this young couple tremendously. It would be one less worry for them.

I would like to leave everyone with this… for the love of books, please wear a helmet when driving a motorcycle. This is the only reason my son is alive today.

Thank you, and we love you all.
