The Aker’s Family

The Akers’ family really needs our prayers and more importantly our support.

While working the Eugene Pro Rodeo, Matt took a hit to the face/head by a bull. They’re settled in the ICU. Matt is resting comfortably. He has lots of facial/ jaw fractures and missing a shit ton of teeth. There’s also a brain bleed/ bruise that’s being monitoring. He’ll continue to be intubated to protect his airway until he has surgery. Surgery won’t happen until tomorrow. They need to keep him stable thru the night. They have him on Prophanol and Fentanyl. Sharee can be in the room with him. The last update I received was that he was awake and joking. He will need to stay in the ICU for several days. This family has had such trial after trial. Let’s rally and do everything we can to financially support them through this. Let’s keep Matt & Sharee and the kids in our prayers and offer support in any way we can.

The Aker’s family has had their life turned upside down. A rapid downward spiral.

As many of you already know, Sharee was diagnosed with several auto immune issues. On top of that, the doctors still haven’t come to a conclusive umbrella diagnosis of what the root cause to all these other issues.

A few of the many things that she’s been going though: neurological decline, numbness, nerve pain, stroke-like symptoms, back pain. And this is just scratching the surface!

It’s been one thing after another for the past 3 years. Brutal. No answers. Constant questions. So much frustration. It’s been a complete nightmare.

Prior to Sharee’s rapid health decline, she was working out several days a week, constantly on the go. She was a fitness trainer. Super active. She has such a passion for all things health and fitness. To go from normal every day things, to now a complete flip side- struggling to stand without feeling dizzy, or the constant pain and numbness to the pins and needles feelings. It’s difficult for her to get in the vehicle, let alone get around the house. The emotional, physical, and mental toll that this has taken on her- it’s unbelievable. We know Sharee to be strong, but DAMN! She’s strong! She’s going through a tremendous life altering circumstance and she hasn’t given up. She continues to fight.

As their family has been trying to adjust to this new form of life, there have been so many medical bills, of course, to top off everything else going on. The average costs for some scans have averaged $1,600 a piece! She’s been in and out of doctors, ERs, clinics, naturopaths, tests, etc. Exhausting every avenue and route thinkable to try and get answers.

Sharee was fitted for a Class 3 power wheelchair. Their insurance only pays 80% of ALL medical bills.

They’re not even sure how much it costs to have one built for you. A Walker and basic wheelchair can only do so much at this point.

Matt, Sharee, and the kids have been doing their best to shuffle life to fit the new needs Sharee has. The bills, the equipment, constant doctor visits, so so much financial burden. Let’s all band together and do our best to help ease their minds of the financial strain all of this has caused. Let’s help them get Sharee the extra care she needs.

They’ve remained upbeat and so positive though all of this. It blows me away, but then again, Sharee is strong-willed and a spitfire. She won’t give up nor will she take no for an answer. She will work as hard as she can. She’ll do whatever it takes to try and figure out why her body is literally attacking itself. Matt and the kids have done nothing but love and support her though this. They’ve clung to each other in this crazy whirlwind that life has taken them on.

They’re so humbled and thankful for each and everyone of you that have checked in, visited, called, and texted. It means absolutely so much to know that they’ve got an incredible community behind them. Thank you again, so much for all your help in easing the finances of: equipment, Drs bills, and other necessities for Sharee. This will help them so tremendously as they navigate this journey.
