A letter from David Murry: Dylan’s race to NASCAR Cup
As most of you know, I’ve been involved in motorsports for a very long time. I was fortunate that I had enough ability to secure opportunities with top teams and racing series where I could shine. I have savored every one of those drives. These days, it’s much harder for young people to make the leap to a competitive racing series. Talent alone does not open doors. Which brings me to my 16-year old son Dylan.
While I like to think I had something to do with it, Dylan was in fact born with some serious driving talent and has been driving almost since he could walk. Dylan has been racing competitively for the last 10 years, winning 11 championships and over 60 feature races in karts, Legends cars, and late model stock cars.
In Dylan’s pursuit of the upper tiers of the motor racing industry, we have reached the threshold of our family’s financial ability. The next two years are critical and TIME SENSITIVE to progressing through the last few rungs of the ladder to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (formerly Sprint Cup). The next level is the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and from there it’s only two steps to Cup. NASCAR teams look at young drivers ready for Cup at 18. That’s why time is so critical to be in K&N now.
Dylan has already secured funding for the K&N race at Watkins Glen in August that runs the same weekend as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race. As this will be Dylan’s first K&N race, NASCAR asks that he run a K&N race somewhere before the Watkins Glen race. We need to raise funds to be used for Dylan to run a K&N race to gain NASCAR approval for the Watkins Glen race for which he is already funded.
Dylan is laser-focused and has worked hard all of his life to get to this point. As his father I have witnessed his unwavering commitment firsthand. He is flawlessly prepared, gives 100% and he does not quit. The only obstacle that he can’t overcome is TIME. Drivers have a small window of opportunity for success at this level. He simply doesn’t have the time to get there without funding. Your help will get Dylan over this hump to prove his talent and value to a team with the goal of getting hired as a driver.
