My daughter Dylan Beach Royster is such an amazing, beautiful, smart and best of all happy baby. She was born to my wife Tara and I on July 14th this year and our lives together have been one adventure after another. Some of you may already know of a few of Dylans pre and post birth medical concerns and until now none of them have been super worrisome or unmanageable until now. A combination of our life situations has cause Dylans head shape to become flat and warped. Aside from the ascetic aspect which is the least of our concerns this has caused her to develop a condition known as torticollis. Torticollis is when the mussels in the back of the head either don't develop correctly or become so tight that it limits range of motion and delays developmental skills.
At 4 months old we began physical therapy to help correct both her plagiocephaly and torticollis and while it has helped some, alone it will not be enough to resolve these issues. Ideally we would like Dylan to go to PT atleast once every other day but due to the high cost of $150 per session not including the therapist travel cost Dylan only goes to PT once every 2 weeks and the rest we try to do on our own with her at home. Dylan goes to a daycare while both her mom and I work for 8 hours a day. Daycare is either unable or unwilling to provide the level of support she needs by doing excessive tummy time or PT stretches so a half session in the morning and one at night is the only time we have.
A few days ago we saw a specialist to get Dylans head reassessed and helmet in process. We were excited to know that all Dylans troubles would be coming to an end soon until we found our that the one insurance that does not cover the cost is the one insurance we have. Apparently the military tricare insurance does not care weather or not my kid will be able to throw a ball, reach for something high up or turn her head when someone calls her name. The doctor says the cost for patients without insurance can be between 2 and 3 thousand dollars and unfortunately that is just not a cost we ever anticipated.
Since several of my family and friends suggested donating through go fund me I figured why not. I know its the holiday season meaning times are extra hard for everyone right now so whatever you can give to help us out would be a blessing in so many ways.
