Dylan’s Fight Against Aplastic Anemia
Hi Everyone. Please join us in spreading awareness for Aplastic Anemia. Dylan is our son, age 15. He loves basketball, gaming, fishing and his dirt bike. All of the normal teenage things will be taken away from him this year as he was just diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. He cannot attend his 10th grade year, he cant go fishing or hunting as he had planned. Homecoming, school basketball games and vacations aren’t in our plans.
As he is on his 27th of admission, we are looking to be home soon. Although, he will need to be at John’s Hopkins 3-4 days per week for blood and platelet transfusions, we can’t wait for him to come home. We are currently starting the Bone Marrow Transplant Process. We should be ready for a doner in 4-6 weeks. After that, we will begin the 10 day prep that consists of many immune suppressant drugs and treatments including chemotherapy. When his body is ready after the 10 days the transplant will take place. Following that he will still be hospitalized for a remaining 4-8 weeks depending on how he recovers. In addition, he will need to be nearby the hospital an additional 100 days as he will be very critical for infection. Please support us in any way you can during our journey.
