Dylan Rhymer Goes To The Edinburgh Fringe

HELLO, WHO ARE YOU?

Hello! I’m Dylan Rhymer, a comedian and actor based in Vancouver, Canada. I’m also the writer, producer and performer of THE DARK SIDE OF THE ROOM, an all-new stand-up comedy show. I’m a working stand-up comedian and actor of over 20 years and have appeared at numerous festivals and even on TV! I’ve toured Canada, the UK and Europe, and performed in all types of spaces from large theatres to comedy clubs, redneck bars to redneck barns (yes, barns). That said, I’m tremendously excited to take my newest project to the world famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe and perform 3 weeks of shows alongside thousands of artists from across the globe. This is easily the biggest professional endeavor I’ve ever attempted and I’d like to thank you for your help.

WHAT’S THE PLAN?

I will be workshopping the material in comedy clubs across Canada throughout April, May and June, before hosting a series of preview shows in Vancouver to work out the last of the kinks. In July I will travel to London, UK for a week of preview shows before hopping the train to Edinburgh Scotland, where I officially launch THE DARK SIDE OF THE ROOM for international audiences. Shows will run nightly at 8pm, Friday, August 4 through Sunday, August 27 at the fabulous City Café (except Wednesdays. Even comedians need a day off). City Cafe is an ideal venue, as it is located just steps from the center of the action at Edinburgh’s Pleasance Courtyard. Walk-in traffic is guaranteed, as over one million comedy-loving tourists pass by.

Laughing Horse Comedy has generously provided my venue, and my agency, Mirth Control Comedy, will help with advertising, marketing and PR.

It’s all coming together but I need a little help to get across the finish line.
WHAT IS THE SHOW ABOUT?

Time. Money. Conflict. Mortality. Madness. Brains in jars. Flying saucers. Breakfast cereal. There’s a little bit of everything. THE DARK SIDE OF THE ROOM is a stand-up comedy tribute to Pink Floyd’s legendary rock album THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, one of the most popular albums of all time and a cultural institution. This is a smart, unique and hilarious hour of stand-up comedy.
WHY PINK FLOYD?

Because I freaking love Pink Floyd. Released in 1973, their breakthrough album The Dark Side of the Moon turns 50 this year. As a lifelong Floyd fan I decided to celebrate it with a brand new hour of stand-up comedy inspired by the hit songs on the album.

IS THIS A MUSICAL?

God no. It is a stand-up comedy show. At no point will I be singing. I would never do that to you.

WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE PINK FLOYD?

Even better! This is a show about the themes on the album and there are plenty. You do not have to have ever heard The Dark Side of the Moon to find to find this show entertaining. The album is simply the framework for the stories I tell and the jokes. Fans of the album will pick up Easter eggs in the show and others will find it to be a funny and engaging show. And who knows, I may just change your mind!

SOUNDS GREAT! HOW CAN I HELP?

The Edinburgh Fringe is a major undertaking that requires resources. By donating to this campaign you’ll be helping a working artist stay afloat and focus on the most important thing: the show.

Your contribution will help cover these costs:

· Basic costume for the show
· Extra marketing to help get the word out to audiences
· Accommodations in Edinburgh and London
· Food
· Travel costs including flights and train tickets
· Day to day expenses
· Emergency funds
· Rent at home while I am away
· Fairly & equitably paying venue staff during the show

HOW ELSE CAN I HELP?

Please let your friends know about this. Every little bit helps.

Come out to my preview shows (and album recording) in Vancouver. You can find show times on my website:www.dylanrhymer.com

The first two work-in-progress shows will be at Pandora’s Box Studios (1890 Pandora) in East Vancouver on Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20.

My first official Fringe Preview show will be at MOTN (1826 Triumph St) in East Vancouver on Saturday, June 24.

If you have any media contacts in Vancouver or Edinburgh who could review the show please let them know. If you are in PR or media please say hello!

If you’re interested in contributing financially in a larger way I’d be happy to discuss how to make it a worthwhile investment.

If you are Pink Floyd please come see the show! I’ve seen you 4 times!

If you would like to help me realize this dream please have a look at my campaigne. Thank you.
