Rainy is dead. Help me cover his vet costs…
Hi everyone! My name is Sonya and around 2 weeks ago, on the 13th of June, my dream came true- i got a little devon rex kitten. The breeder told me that he is 8 weeks old and never mentioned any health problems, the only thing I knew is that he did not have any vaccines. The breeder also insisted that I take the kitten as soon as possible, because he is selling all his cats. I also saw another kitten in the pictures, it was half the size of mine and looked sick. When we arrived to the breeder, I did not see any other cats and the conditions were frankly awful, no furniture and dirty floors, and he was handling Rainy (my kitten) as if he was an object. After taking him, I noticed that Rainy was sneezing and coughing a bit, but I did not think it was a big deal. He was active, eating well, always cuddling with me and I could not be any happier. After 5 days, I took him to the vet to get him chipped and plan the vaccine schedule, where I told the vet about the symptoms but they said it should resolve on its own, and to come back if he gets worse.
The next morning I saw that his eyes were covered in mucus and his coughs were getting worse. I stayed with him 24/7 those days, making sure he eats, is warm and loved. The situation did not improve the next day so we went to the vet again, where we were prescribed anti-inflammatory medication. During this visit, the vet also expressed concerns that there is no way he is 9 weeks old - 4 weeks maximum, that he weighs 470 grams instead of 1-1,2kg and that a respiratory infection at that age can be lethal. This leads me to believe that the breeder most likely lied about his age and wanted to sell all the cats as soon as possible since they all started getting sick. After that, I started texting the breeder asking if the mother had any vaccines and if he was aware that the kitten is sick, to which I did not receive any adequate response, and he is still ignoring my many messages about his condition. We went home and he was fine over the weekend, not active but eating well and taking the medicine. It all changed on monday morning, the 24th of June, when I woke up to him not eating, hardly responding to me and breathing heavily with his mouth, which are all symptoms of severe inflammation. I urgently took him to the vet, and was faced with 2 options: either get him to a hospital for intensive care which costs 2,500€ for 2 days; or day care at the clinic for a bit less money. With a heavy heart, I chose the latter because this money is frankly unbearable. Now, after half a day of intensive care at the clinic I was billed 430€ and we need to come back there until he gets better, which sums up to around 1000€ a day. I am a Ukrainian student who does not receive any help and I work to pay everything myself, which puts me in a position that I either let him die or scream everywhere for help. He is insured, however all the insurance companies have a 30-day waiting period which we are now in and during which this condition is not reimbursed.
THEREFORE, please, if you can support me and this sweetest, most precious and beautiful kitten to have a chance, I would appreciate any help. If you don’t have money, please consider sharing. I appreciate your attention and support❤️
