High School Student makes an elite symphony
Hello my name is Amiya keturi I am a senior at Pitman High School and I have been playing the double bass since 8th grade and I also play the piano. Music is my passion and I will be continuing my education in music through college.
I will be auditioning to the San Fransisco Conservatory of Music and Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles. I hope to become a Screen Scorer, which is writing music for movies and tv shows and even video games. I also hope to perform in a symphony for the bass and either and accompanist for the piano or even a soloist.
This year I have been selected to perform in the Honors Performance Series Symphony at Carnegie Hall in New York. This is an elite symphony that has been selected out of thousands of applicants from many different countries. I cannot wait to meet everyone who was accepted into this program it is such an honor to be able to go.
The trip is included with a lot of fun activists which include:
- A broadway show
- Seeing different monuments and museums
- A celebration for our amazing achievement and much more
November 8th - $500
December 2nd - $500
December 20th - $650
The total program cost is about 1900 a little more and there was a $295 deposit that went into my fund when I was accepted.
However my instrument the double bass is a very big and costly instrument. The $5,000 is the cost of both the trip and my instrument. It includes:
A hard case - $1,050
A double bass ranging from $600 - $2,500
And a German bow - $150 - $200
(This excludes the price of the ticket to take the instrument with my on the plane and back)
Those prices are for being able to buy my own bass there is many that I have looked at but I have not been able to play any yet that is why the cost is a wide range. As well as the bow the basses I’ve looked at in person did not come with a German bow which is a certain type of bow that I only know how to play.
Although, there is a possibility of renting an instrument from New York which costs about the same from the places my family have looked into. As well as from here there is still the cost to take it onto the plane with me.
