I found myself alone with my 2 year old son in one of the world’s largest airports. A frightening situation, when you’re practically blind.
My wife and I were taking our son Ian to Disney World. We arrived at Pearson and discovered my wife’s passport was not valid. We split up - Ian and I went ahead as planned while my wife went off to get things in order. Incredibly, Ian at the tender age of two, acted as my guide, reading signs for me, getting us to our gate on time and spotting our luggage on the carousel.
Most of you know I’m legally blind. I was born with a malformed optic nerve. I have about 10% vision. It’s like being extremely near sighted, and it cannot be corrected with glasses.
I’m married. I have two boys. Since I was 17, I’ve been in the radio industry doing the work I’ve always dreamed of doing.
I have a full life, but I don’t see the full picture.
Sometimes it`s frightening like navigating an airport, or not being able to see my child if we get separated in a crowd.
Sometimes it`s frustrating like asking a waiter what’s on tap and hearing, “They’re right there on the wall.”
Sometimes it`s kind of funny like hearing a voice say hi and not knowing who it is but saying hi anyways. Cheering on my Argos with no clue what the score is, and missing all the high fives.
Many times I wish for more. At my kids’ school concerts, I’d love the ability to spot him up on stage. Not just listen to but watch my son perform his piano recital. At church, not just attend but be able to fully worship, to read the song lyrics and follow the service in the bulletin.
I`ve waited my whole life for this breakthrough.
It sounds too good to be true… My wife heard about e-SIGHT glasses. It’s the only technology that helps people who are legally blind actually see! I know! It’s amazing. And it’s true.

These glasses have an HD camera and two OLED screens. They capture what you’re looking at, enhance it and then display it in real time. They’re hands free and they’re mobile – you can use them anywhere.
Of course I had to try them. It really was amazing. First, they asked me to read an eye chart and I couldn’t read a single letter. I put the glasses on, looked at the same eye chart and read every single gray scale and font size diminishing letter….from across the room!
The future is finally here. These glasses are going to change my life. At home, I’ll see the smiling faces of my family. At work, routine tasks will be a lot easier and less time consuming. It will enable me to do so many things, I never thought would be possible.
The big issue is cost. They’re $15,000 and I’ll have to save for long while to get there on my own. I’ve launched this appeal to see if I can make it happen sooner. If you can, please consider a donation. If not you can help by liking my Facebook page and sharing this with others.
