Tyler's Heart Transplant

Many of us know and cherish Tyler and Becky, and their lovely blended family with seven children. What many of us didn’t know is that in the past couple weeks, Tyler’s health has tipped from a precarious heart issue to a life-threatening one. Tyler has been admitted to the hospital for the foreseeable future, and currently his only hope of survival is a heart transplant. Tyler has congestive heart failure, diagnosed in 2018, and it has advanced to end stage D, and he has been placed on the UNOS Heart Transplant wait list. His condition is such that he has to stay in the ICU, on a life supporting intra-aortic balloon pump, until he receives a new heart. While he is under the best of care at University Washington Medical Center, it takes him away from home as a husband and a father, and importantly, it prevents him from being able to provide financially for his family.

As mentioned above, a few years before Tyler and Becky married in 2022, Tyler was diagnosed with serious congestive heart failure. That same year, instead of enjoying a honeymoon and newlywed bliss, he underwent surgery to regulate his heart beat to prolong his life, nearly dying on the table. Being private people who take pride in being self-sufficient in meeting their obligations, Tyler and Becky chose to keep this information private and have attempted to lead as normal a life as was possible. Tyler’s condition has had a detrimental impact on his ability to work consistently as a Pharmacist, since 2022. This put their family in a precarious position financially, even with Becky working as a substitute para-educator, while trying to manage seven children, the youngest of which is three years old.

Now, with Tyler hospitalized indefinitely, Becky is parenting alone, working when she can, and is at the hospital to advocate for and comfort Tyler. In addition, she is receiving instructions and preparing to care for him when a transplant is possible. Once home, his recovery will likely take many months but we hope it will enable him to celebrate many more anniversaries, birthdays, and graduations with his family.

Immediate family and friends are stepping in where they can, however, without financial support, Tyler and Becky will not be able to pay the substantial medical bills and daily life expenses required to sustain a family of nine. Please consider contributing what you can to assist Tyler and his family. The funds raised will go to keeping their family together in their home, medical expenses, and covering the life-basics for at least the next several months.

Thank you for reading their story and considering helping. Please feel free to share their story and this link because we can't do this without your support.
