Krishna's Top Surgery Fund

I am a South Asian Sindhi (Indian+Pakistani) bisexual non-binary transgender man and on October 14 I finally was able to make the first step to a dream that I've had for years. I travelled for 5 hours and slept in my fiancee's car to make it to an appointment at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas for a top surgery consultation with Dr. Amirlak.

I have always wanted top surgery, and knew it was for me when I was as young as 11. You may have met me in real life, but many of you know me through my Youtube channel where I documented my experience transitioning. That channel was started when I was 14 years old, and at the age of 22 I still have the same goal but have now reached a stage in my life where it could be possible.

In all honesty, I didn't think this opportunity would ever come. The statistics for transgender youth are grim at best, and I was one of many in my community dealing with abuse, suicide attempts, and at one point even homelessness. I did not think I would survive past the age 14, let alone graduate high school. But I am now 22, in college, and glad to be alive to see this dream come true. I don't think the younger version of myself ever thought this reality could be possible, and it's hard for me to believe I'm lucky enough to be here today.

It has been an unbelievable journey, but top surgery has been a milestone that has always kept me going until tomorrow. When I was 9, I dislocated my spine in an intense car crash that should have taken my life. What it did take however, was time I have to heal and bind safely. As many of you know, transgender people with my body type typically bind and compress their chest, and I am one of the millions who do so every day. I do this at school, at work, socially, and any time I am not alone. Studies have shown binding is only safe up to 8 hours with multiple breaks for stretching, but I usually have to go past this to 12 hours or more with no breaks. With my back the way it is, this has caused damage that requires me to go through additional physical therapy on top of what I must already attend and is hazardous to my health at this point.

I have undertaken several jobs and saved up half of the money needed, but my co-pay is high and while it is terrifying to ask for help, I must. If you can, I would appreciate it more than anything in the world if you could help make this dream become a reality.

Sharing is also appreciated! Thank you so much for reading some of my story, it means everything to me.

The goal is for top surgery in summer 2021!
