On a vacation in Greece that was supposed to be be filled with sunshine, joy, and laughter, the unimaginable happened. While visiting Santorini, Dwight and I went on a morning hike with some friends of ours.

 

Unfortunately, our journey came to an abrupt halt when Dwight lost his footing at the highest point and tumbled cliffside nearly 200 feet to the rocky beach below. Thankfully and miraculously, he survived, but not without serious injuries, including fractured ribs, a fractured hip, a few broken sacral bones which separated the hip from the spine, internal bleeding, a severe hematoma and multiple head contusions.

 

After spending multiple days in a hospital that was not equipped for the proper care of his situation, we found a way to privately have him transported by air to another hospital on the mainland, where he was able to get a much-needed surgery within 24 hours.

 

Although we’re still not out of the woods, Dwight is strong and physically he is making strides, although a huge growing medical bill at $35,000 is now looming over us that insurance has said they will not cover and that we are responsible for before leaving. He is still unable to walk, and the rehab needed to get him to that point is still pending.
