Dwayne’s Brain Stem Stroke Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Aug 26, 2023 my cousin Cecelia’s husband Dwayne suffered a catastrophic BRAIN STEM STROKE, leaving him in a “Locked In” state- (known as Locked In Syndrome). Locked In Syndrome occurs when you have a stroke in the brain stem. The brain stem has only one artery supplying it blood and oxygen, it’s called the Basilar Artery, and that is completely blocked. This caused all of his motor function to completely stop. The brain stem is where your arms, legs, trunk, and mouth get their signals to move. With the blockage they cannot get the signals needed to move or speak.

Cece has not left her husband Dwayne’s side. She has even been working from home since Dwayne’s stroke. The hospital discharged Dwayne and CeCe straight to rehab, where they stayed until January 3, 2024. They were then sent home because CeCe’s job changed insurance providers to a provider known to be notorious for declining all of their requests or claims. Currently they are still home with no home care because the change of insurance is making it difficult to get Dwayne’s much needed services approved.

Since they have been at home CeCe has been struggling with her sole income to pay bills, cover Dwayne’s copays, and cover all of his medical supplies including equipment he needs at home to even have a hope or prayer of recovery. CeCe has had to order special items like adult briefs, underpads for the bed, wipes, handicap van rentals for doctors appointments (because they do not qualify for the community one), medications, liquid proteins, vitamins and supplements that support brain function and repair damaged neuro-transmitters; all of which has depleted any money or savings the family had. Dwayne needs a sit-to-standing frame, Red-Light therapy treatments, assistive communication devices like the Tobii Dynavox, tilt adjustable shower commode chair with wheels, and strength training devices to promote muscular flexibility and strength.

All donations will be going to the necessary items for Dwayne’s care. The donations will also help to get a much needed vehicle to transport Dwayne to and from his appointments and outpatient therapy.

If you could help any amount is greatly appreciated and just prayers are always at the top of the list for what we need!
