Hi, my name is Jo Martin and am neighbours to Dwayne and Rhonda Mayer.

The last couple of months have been extremely difficult for Dwayne and Rhonda. At the beginning of May their farm was devastated by wildfire. In the aftermath, they worked day and night to protect their home - and their neighbours’ property - from hotspots and flare ups. As things finally calmed down from the fire, Dwayne was overwhelmed by exhaustion. However, it quickly became clear that it was more than just fatigue. After extensive testing, the Mayers received devastating news. Dwayne was diagnosed with cancer.

The coming months will prove to be difficult as he undergoes treatment and further testing.

We have created this GoFundMe to help relieve the financial burden that will accumulate as neither will be able to work. Dwayne is self employed and not eligible for benefits to cover loss of income. Rhonda will be staying at home as he is now immunocompromised and he needs to remain in isolation.

Dwayne and Rhonda are two of the most generous people you could ever meet. Anyone who knows them are aware of what big hearts these folks have. Throughout the wildfire they checked in with neighbours, bringing gifts of food and offering their assistance - even though they were overwhelmed with their own difficulties brought on by the fire. Their kindness is infectious. Throughout all of this, their faith has never wavered. They trust in God and go forth with their faith in His hands.
