**Updated message from Mel**
Rich and I looked forward to our much needed vacation to Samoa. We were all coming together to celebrate a birthday milestone for my dad, his 90th! We had no idea this trip would be the last for Rich.
On our second day here, we were celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary with the family, Rich had an accident, he slipped trying to get into our truck and broke his ankle. Things took a turn for Rich from here on.
Underlying health issues came to front, and Rich’s health declined rapidly. As some of you know, Rich loved Samoa, warm water, island breezes, he loved to sit and watch the ocean when he wasn’t in it until he turned into a wrinkled prune.
Lying in his hospital bed, Rich said he belonged here, he wanted to stay. I refused and convinced him we were going back to Sacramento. In the early morning hours of August 2, 2024, Rich took his last breath.
In my grief, I selfishly wanted to bring Rich home but he loved it here and I decided along with support of family and friends that this would be his final resting place. He can stay here forever now. I will have a memorial service for Rich back home when I return, notices will be sent out.
This Gofundme account has been set up to help me do right by Rich and give him a proper burial. All our funds are tied up back home as we were here on vacation.
Rich, you will be missed by many. Love you always.
