My dad and I are asking for help for groceries, bills, and possibly medical supplies. We are in the transition between him leaving work and getting disability, and have zero income as of now.
"I don’t really know how to start this so I guess I just need to say it upfront.. My dad has been on cancer treatment for stage 4 renal cell carcinoma since last year. It spread to his lungs in small nodules before it was found by doctors. After removing the kidney that had a giant mass on it, he started on immunotherapy and chemo pills. This treatment was working and the nodules on his lungs shrank. Unfortunately, his body started rejecting the treatment and he developed an infection in his lungs, severe enough they had to stop the cancer treatments to care for his lungs. As soon as treatment was stopped, the cancer spread like wildfire. Renal cell carcinoma is known to be a very aggressive cancer. There are now Mets all over his lungs, and it has spread to his liver.. leaving little options to continue treatment. His lung is still infected and partially collapsed, and there have been many other symptoms making him sick. At this point, it seems the best option is just symptom treatment. This is completely his choice though.. if he wants to try radiation or more chemo.. but in his case, it’d probably make him even more sick. He is still recovering from his infection and fluid build up, on top of recovering from a heart surgery to remove fluid from around his heart. He has now started palliative care, and depending on whether or not he decides to continue treatment, he will either stay with them, or get on hospice if treatments stop. I know he has tried to tell people, but with all of us being in so much shock, I’m sure some people were not informed, and I’m really sorry if this is where you’re first hearing of it. Just know that we love you all and are appreciative to everyone who has been reaching out and constantly offering a helping hand. "
