Princess Ava's Broken Heart Fund
Donation protected
Ava is our 8 year old sister who is currently fighting for her life at The Stollery Children's Hospital at the U of A in Edmonton, AB.
She was admitted on Sunday March 13, 2016 for what seemed like a horrible flu. After many tests, procedures, and lab work, doctors determined that she was in acute liver failure. While caring for her liver, doctors decided to check her heart as a precaution and discovered that she was also in acute heart failure. Ava was immediately transferred to the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and will remain there indefinitely.
After several more days of medical procedures including, but not limited to, ultrasounds, X-rays, lab tests, ECGs, and echocardiograms, her exceptional team of doctors has determined a diagnosis : Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). It is their best theory that Ava has had this underlying heart condition since birth but contracted an undetermined virus and her heart has now been pushed over the edge.
Ava remains in liver failure and her heart is rapidly deteriorating. She has reached a point where life support and/or heart and liver transplants are very possible next steps in her care.
Her teams of doctors include: cardiologists, endocrinologists, neurologists, infectious disease specialists, metabolic specialists, and two transplant teams. Ava has completed her liver transplant work up and is in the process of completing her heart transplant work up.
Many people have come forward with well wishes and asking for ways in which they can help.
This gofundme page's goal is to raise money for my family to help cope with this unexpected tragedy by helping us with: transportation, accommodations, food, lost wages, enrichment items for Ava, and expenses associated with her long term medical care.
DCM affects only 6 in one million children. For more information - please see the links below.
Thank you.
