Dear Family and Friends,

Our hearts are breaking....

It is with great sadness to share with you that our wonderful son Joey has just been diagnosed with adrenocortical carcinoma Stage 4.  This has come to us as a complete shock.  Joey has been doing well in school, sports, and life.  We have been so proud of him and his progress as a 13 year old boy.

Joey is a vibrant, caring, mature, intelligent, sweet boy who is up for the fight of his life.  Instead of saying, “Why me?” Joey said, “It’s ok this happened to me.  Now, I’ll be able to help other children with this type of cancer.”

As a law enforcement family, we have experienced and witnessed life tragedies.  We all understand that life isn't always fair and children maintain a soft spot in our hearts.

Late last year, our family transferred from South Florida to Washington, D.C., as part of our government service.  We were concerned about transitioning our children, but were lucky that both adjusted well.  We had been living life as if everything was perfect.  We did not realize our son had a silent but aggressive disease growing within.  He never complained and appeared perfectly healthy.

During a school physical, the doctor felt a bump in his stomach.  This bump turned out to be a metastatic cancerous tumor that has spread to his lungs and vascular structures.  As of July 5th, Joey completed a major surgery and begun a long journey of pending treatments and surgeries.  He continues to be positive, strong, and makes all of us laugh everyday.

We feel the same desperation that is visible on the other parents' faces at the Cancer Center.  Our precious and innocent children are being hunted by this vicious disease.  Thankfully, the U.S. has some of the brightest research minds and has developed treatments to disrupt cancer.

We continue to be positive that Joey will respond well to treatment and hope to have positive reports for our friends and family.  If anyone will be able to beat this, it is our Joey.  He has a great attitude, unbelievable strength, and a beautiful spirit.

We would like to thank all those that donate to help defray the cost of having a child with cancer.  Your donations will help to pay Joey's medical costs and transportation to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NY, through the upcoming treatments.

The outpouring of support has brought a smile to Joey's face and he has already discussed his desire to donate a portion of the funds to the researchers that are working to beat this disease.  Blessings!

With love,

Chrissy and Dave Jeffrey
