Maizy was diagnosed in October of 2011 with OTC,a rare metabolic disease/urea cycle disorder. This was a drastic turning point in the lives of the Weimer family. Matt and Brica learned how to monitor Maizy's severely protein restricted diet, administer G-tube feedings, medications and supplements. Although there were many ups and downs over the past 3 years, due to the love and constant monitoring from her parents, Maizy was doing extremely well and leading an active life. She loved dressing up like a princess and wearing sparkling high heel shoes anywhere she could! She was the only sweet youngster sporting silver heels at the zoo! She was ready to take on her new role as a kindergartener!
Very unexpectedly and with great sadness, Maizy passed in her sleep on August 30th. The loss of her beautiful spirit here on earth and her example of courage, strength and resilience will be truly missed. It is in this time that we would like to rally around the Weimer family and show our love and support. If you are able to contribute to the Team aMAIZYing memorial fund to be used at the Weimer's discretion during this time of healing, it is greatly appreciated.
