IT’S ONLY INTERMISSION FOR THUNDER THEATRE COMPANY
Like so many high schools across the nation, the Desert Vista High School Thunder Theatre Company had their hearts broken when the Spring musical production of Anything Goes was cancelled due to school closures from the current pandemic. After three months of long rehearsals, tap choreography, set design and costuming, Opening Night was less than two weeks away and the cast and crew were excited to show off their incredible talent and hard work! (As well as the student-built 50-foot, two-story set, complete with two staircases and an upper deck.)
Opening Night came and went and the stage remained dark. Production costs had already been spent, and important revenue from ticket sales and concessions was lost. However, the show must go on and we remain hopeful that this unusual time for all of us is only intermission. So these amazing students channeled their sadness into creative energy and put together a virtual Cabaret performance to help recover funds and support the future of the department. Cabaret 2020 will take place on May 8th and include individual performances by TTC students. Audience members can view the performances and then make a donation online.
Any Donation Amount is Appreciated!
Productions are expensive and The Arts often receive less funding and attention than most sports and other activities. Yet, the importance of the Arts remains true: Theatre, Music, Dance and Design transform lives. For some students, it is the reason they wake up every morning.
*Worthy of Note: Thunder Theatre Company is a self-sufficient entity, funded entirely by its Boosters Club, parent support, ticket sales, and student fundraisers. An average high school musical production costs $10,000-$12,000 which includes the show Rights, musical arrangements, costumes, set design/drops, lighting, paint and props.
