My father has lived in this town since he was about 16. He went to Charlotte High and then worked for the family buisness at the parts place (some of you may remember it). He has been in parts for as long as I have known him. He is a worker it is what he does and what he knows. He has built so many relationships through the buisness and just the community in general over the years. As most men are he is stubborn and proud and a fighter. Some of the things I love most about him. Unfortunately about a month ago we found out that he has something on his lungs the doctors worried about. After all the scans, testing, and surgery they discovered it was worse than what they originally thought. He was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer and it shattered our hearts.
This strong man we always thought was invincible suddenly was not. The doctors initially thought it could be removed. This was not the case. It had spread. They have ordered him to start chemo and radiation this coming week. They gave him 18 months.
Now I am born and raised here and I have seen this community come together and support one another in one another's toughest times. To lift people up and show them we are all fighting along side them. He wants to fight and wants to win and if I know anything about my dad he will go down swinging. The things he has overcome and conquered in his life make me so proud to be apart of him. It comes to when everyone has to sit back and put the pride aside and realize everyone needs help. He is going to work through the chemo and radiation because that is the man he is. With the treatments, medication and medical bill's already piling up. I want nothing more than to let him have a little less stress so he can finally for once in his life focus on himself.
The support from people who are just now finding out is incredible and touching. I honestly cant believe it. So I decided to put my own pride (and also not tell him I'm doing this) and try a go fund me. They ask you to put an amount as your goal. I really had trouble filling that part out. My only goal is to give my dad a little relief and help him the way he has my entire life.
I fully intend on making this man walk all his daughters down the aisle and we will be by his side through this all. He has a 1 in 15 chance on beating this and he is going to be the 1, thats why we named this Fleming15 (name credit to alyssa) So even if it's a dollar or a supportive message. Let's show him how much he and his family mean to us and show him we are all fighting along side him.
