My Students: Our 20 student classroom is full of joyful 7 and 8 year-olds who are so motivated to learn! Our school is a multilingual and multicultural school located between the Portola and Excelsior Districts in southeast San Francisco. 90% of students are low-income and 60% are English Learners. Our school's mission is to engage students to become enthusiastic, lifelong learners who will make positive contributions to their families and their communities.

My Project: I want my students to have access to all of the tools necessary for them to become fluent readers, active learners, and powerful advocates for themselves and their communities…but I need your help! This project will allow me to purchase:
• Books: By having more high interest books at my students’ “just right” reading levels, my students will be able to grow as readers and develop a love of reading.
• Community carpet: This carpet will be used for our morning meetings, restorative circles, and appreciation circles. (Our school is working with the restorative practices program and the Second Step Curriculum in order to help our students’ learn important socio-emotional skills. My students have been learning what it means to be part of a caring community by using their words to describe and understand feelings.)
• Math tools: Having enough arithmetic racks and math manipulatives will help my students develop number sense and be able to add and subtract numbers fluently.
