Dutch the English Bulldog
Donation protected
The handsome, chunky boy in the picture is Dutch. I volunteer at a local animal shelter (they requested to not be named) and Dutch is unavailable for adoption because he has two surgeries that need to be done due to genetic issues caused by breeding.
One surgery is for his soft palate. This one is crucial for his well being because he struggles to breathe with every step and breath he takes. The other surgery he needs is for his eye wrinkles. Even though his smoosh face is adorable, his eye wrinkles make it difficult for him to see. He has a very low quality of life because of his health care needs. The animal shelter is unable to perform these procedures and they have been attempting to find new placement for him at a new shelter. They have been unsuccessful and he is facing being euthanized if placement isn’t found.
I originally fell in love with this dog when I saw him protesting a walk with another volunteer. I have been in frequent contact with the animal shelter about him ever since. The shelter said that I’m free to adopt him but his healthcare needs are extreme. My plan is to adopt him and find his forever home. I would love to take him in as my own, but it may be more realistic for me to get him to an adoptable state and find placement for him with someone who has the financial ability to care for his health. This little guy (50lbs) is only two and has needed quite a bit of support already.
I don’t know what the future holds for Dutch, but my main goal is to ensure he has a future.
