Duston Knapp & family

Donation protected

Duston Knapp, a friend to many, a son, a brother, cousin, husband, and dad. If you have had the privilege of knowing Duston, well, chances are you know that sharing his story is not easy for him. I have asked for permission from Duston and his wife Ashley to speak on his behalf regarding his current condition.

If you haven't had the privilege of knowing Duston Knapp, I'd like to share a little bit about him. Not to sound cliche, but he is literally the "DAD" next door. This guy is always down to help out a buddy, coworker or family. He is AMAZING with the kids always teaching them cool things, always fueling their adventuress nature, and keeping them in line for us mama's. I can't tell you how many times Duston has showed up for not only me but for my children; just by simply being a good man, a friend and sharing his love and support for those he cares for. Duston is the kind of guy who will get up in the middle of the night, from his peaceful rest at any given time if called on. I've have had the privilege for knowing Duston Knapp for over two decades now and I have watched him throughout the years growing into the man, husband and father he is today and I am so very proud to call him a friend and thankful to consider him family. I have gotten to share some very special pastimes with the Knapps, and I have no doubt many of you have as well. It saddens me to share that the Knapps are going through some unimaginable times right now.

Over the past several months, Duston has been in and out of the doctors due to receiving a new medical diagnosis; Type 2 Diabetes. While no diagnosis is preferred, this diagnosis is treatable with medication and proper diet. Duston did exactly what the doctors told him to do and made some huge lifestyle changes. Unfortunately, Duston has been back and forth to the hospital, and after further testing, Duston has received another medical diagnosis; Hemochromatosis. Hemochromatosis is an inherited condition resulting in iron overload. Excess iron then begins to attack the organs, which can lead to conditions such as heart failure. Duston did not know this heritery gene ran in the family, and two of his living relatives share similar diagnoses. The Doctors have performed multiple procedures to try to help strengthen Duston's heart but unfortunatley his heart is not responding the way it is needed and was transferred early morning today Avdent in Orlando, FL in hopes for a heart transplant. While a lot is still uncertain regarding Duston's condition at this time, one thing is for certain is that there will be a long road to recovery.

For anyone who would like to support the Knapps, all funds donated will go directly to Duston and Ashley Knapp to assist with but not limited to the cost of continued medical care, medical bills and/or prescriptions, and other bills as a supplement for loss of wages during the time, and meals for Ashley while she stays by Dustons bedside. Ashley is still working, and it is super amazing that her job has provided flexibility to allow her to work remotely. As you can imagine, Ashley has a lot on her plate but she is still working to ensure she can keep providing for their family. Anything helps and truly can make a difference in their lives and those who love them. If you are unable to contribute, your support and prayers are just as valued.

This again is not easy for the Knapps to share, so I do ask that you respect the Knapps privacy during this time. I will do my very best at providing updates here.
