Dustin’s 6th open heart surgery Dec 2021

Hello friends, my name is Tessa Barbour. I’m known to most as Dustin’s little sister.

Anyone who knows my brother is aware of his ability to light up a room. He has a unique ability to strike up a conversation (most likely about tractors ) with anyone nearby. His positivity has been a staple in our community for decades.

Unfortunately my brother needs a little extra help this year..

In may of 2020 Dustin was hospitalized for internal bleeding. After months of testing and medical appointments it was discovered that the mechanical valve in his heart is leaking and his aorta is enlarged. This extra pressure on his heart has been causing respiratory problems, one lung working at 70% and the other at only 20%. All the medical professionals agreed it is essential to his life that they proceed with Dustin’s 5th open heart surgery.

Dustin and my parents are being sent to Edmonton for this emergent procedure. His surgery is scheduled for June 2nd, 2021. This has come as a shock to all of us.

Due to the pandemic, doctors have advised against flying to Edmonton. So my parents have no choice but to drive and stay in Edmonton on their own dime while they await surgery and begin recovery.

With my parents blessing, I’m asking for your help. My parents have spent a majority of their life worrying for my brother and his heart. I don’t want them to have to worry about the financial burden of this life saving trip. Anything left over will go towards Dustin’s recovery from surgery (medical equipment, medications, recovery aids, medical supports.. etc..)
