Dustin Luebke is a 31 yr. old devoted husband, father, and Sioux Falls Fire fighter who is going through his second fight with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He currently lives in Harrisburg, SD with his wife, Amanda and 3 girls, Natalie (6), Gretchen (3), and Sami (6mo). He will be the first to tell you his four girls are his pride and joy.

In March of 2014 Dustin was diagnosed with Hodgkins’ Lymphoma Stage 2B. If you know Dustin, he is the perfect example of living a balanced, healthy lifestyle. But, cancer knows no bounds and he took this fight head on and was a great inspiration to so many. Dustin’s strong faith in God was, and is, a driving factor in his success. He underwent 12 Chemotherapy treatments over the next 8 months. The doctors told him he would probably only make 25% of his shifts at the fire station. In typical Dustin form, he made 76% of them. He went to work with a positive attitude to help the citizens of Sioux Falls. He was considered to be in remission in October of 2014. In April of 2015 Dustin was re-diagnosed with recurring Hodgkin’s. What this means is some of the cancer cells were initially resistant to the chemo he received. So Dustin has currently started round two of chemotherapy and will receive 6 treatments before receiving a Stem Cell transplant later this summer. This is a very scary treatment, but with faith, he is pushing ahead with a great attitude. During his second round of chemo he will continue to work the days he feels up to the task. However, once it is time for the Stem cell transplant, he will be admitted for a minimum of 30 days at Avera McKennan. Then he will have at least another 30-60 days of recovery once he is released.

Dustin has been a member of Sioux Falls Fire Rescue for 8 ½ years and also owns and operates Luebke Painting. He specializes in interior painting, and after 6 years his part time job grew into much more. However, during both treatment periods he has had to put his business on hold. Amanda is a cosmetologist. She has been able to take as much time off of work as needed to be able to make it to Dustin's doctor appointments and chemotherapy infusions. While Dustin is in the hospital for 30 days, she will be missing a lot of work to spend time with him during the day while he is not feeling well. Then she will be off to get the girls from daycare. With the loss of one income, and partially with another, as well as hospital expenses, there is bound to be financial stress. Please prayerfully consider donating to this wonderful, young family.
