Dustin's Dauntless Fight with Leukemia
Donation protected
Some of you may know him as Dustin, Dusty, Dumpy, Dug, and Bud. To many of us he is our brother, son, uncle, keeper, tennis partner, teammate, coach, tax guy, friend, and loved one. He needs us now!
Dustin Jensen was completely caught off guard when he was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in June 2019. He was very lucky to have randomly gone in for a check-up even though he felt healthy. Since that time he’s been on medications to try to put the CML into remission (which occurs 90% of the time), but unfortunately hasn’t been the case for him. So here he is, getting prepared to have a bone marrow transplant in the next 4-6 weeks.
When he has the transplant he will be in the hospital for around 30 days. Once they feel good about the transplanted stem cells being stable they’ll let him leave the hospital. He will then head home where he will need to be under 24 hour care in a germ free environment. He will need someone to help him with medications, getting to and from doctor appointments, cleaning, and other daily tasks. Due to the sensitive nature of the transplant they can’t risk him being alone in the initial stages which means our mother will be taking a leave from work in order to provide that care. In the meantime, he will have many medical bills, need lots of medical equipment at home, and continued supplies to make sure there are no germs in his environment, as well as time taken off work for both he and my mom during the transplant and recovery.
As many of you know, our family has had a good run in with cancer the last year and we’ve supported each family member the best we can. We will continue to do so, but Dustin could use a little more support. Many givers makes his burden lighter and easier to bear. Please consider donating if you’re able. Also, your prayers and positive thoughts towards this process will be so welcomed. We love our brother/son/friend/and loved one dearly. We love and appreciate each of you!
