Dustin Lumpkins' Emergency Eye Surgeries
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Megan Taylor and I am raising money for my brother-in-law, Dustin Lumpkins. He has already had emergency eye surgery but will have multiple surgeries in the future in hopes of saving his eyesight. Anything you can provide to help with the upcoming cost of his surgeries will be much appreciated.
Here is his story:
Dustin was working on a truck, and as he was using the air hammer, a piece of metal flew into his eye. He immediately started seeing black spots and fog, losing the majority of his vision. He went straight to the eye doctor, and they had to send him to a specialist first thing the next morning. Dustin and Heather went to that appointment, and the doctor did all kinds of exams and told him that he would need to leave immediately and go for emergency surgery, or he will 100% go blind. The metal went through every layer of his eye, including his lens and cornea, and tore a bunch of areas, sitting in the very back of his eye. They had to remove his lens, and the trauma was too bad to replace it during that surgery. They had to remove the "goo" from his eye and replace it with oil. He is on multiple eye drops every day and oral antibiotics in hopes that the metal that was in there doesn't cause an infection in his eye. In 6 months, he will have to have another big eye surgery to remove the oil and try to put a new lens at that time. He is having to see multiple eye specialists every week, along with also having to have at least one more major eye surgery. The doctors and surgeons said they have not seen a trauma like that, and the next few days/weeks are crucial to his recovery. They are unsure at the moment how much of his vision can be restored, but they are doing everything they can to get it the best possible. He is on very strict restrictions and isn't allowed to even bend over to tie his shoe or lift anything whatsoever. As of now, he is only able to see slight blurs out of that eye and has a very long road ahead.
