Dustin Jones is a 39-year-old man. Dustin was born with a heart defect that went undetected until he was 30 years old. He then had his aortic valve replaced. This was 9 years ago.

On Monday, January 23, 2023, Dustin's wife Cholice took him to the ER for chest pain and shortness of breath. We were told he was in atrial fibrillation and that he had some pneumonia. He then had the doctor try to shock his heart back into rhythm, which it worked for about five minutes. He then went right back into atrial fibrillation. He asked the doctor to shock him a second time and the doctor said no, they would admit him to the hospital and use medication to get his heart back in rhythm.

On Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, his wife Cholice went to be with him at 8:00 am. Things were not right Dustin was delusional and not at all himself. By 10:00 am they transferred Dustin to ICU, because he had passed out from his blood pressure is too low. At this time his doctor contacted his heart transplant team at the U of M-Fairview and they worked all day to get him transferred to Fairview. They flew him out around 6:00 pm. My self Cholice (wife), my 15-year-old daughter and his mother Jan started our drive to Minneapolis.

The flight nurse called me when we were in St. Cloud and told me that the flight went well, and they were on the way to the hospital from the airport. Just a short time later his Dr. called me asked how far away we were, and told me they needed to get Dustin into surgery and put him on full life support or he wouldn't make it. We got to the hospital just as they were taking him into surgery. We stayed at the hospital until he was in ICU. After they got him situated we got to go in and see him. The doctor said they could not wait for us to get to the hospital for us to see him before they took him into surgery because all his organs we failing. His heart could not get the blood pumped through his body to his organs.

January 27th, 2023, his organs were working, and he is now getting the blood flow he needs by machines. He will be on full life support until a heart comes available.

Dustin has a long recovery time coming. After he receives a heart the normal recovery time is two months. In those two months, we have to live down in the cities. The longer Dustin is under sedation the longer it's going to take to recover and build his strength back up. In the meantime, I am running back and forth trying to keep everything running smoothly.
