- Hi my name is Christine. I have raised funds for others in the past. This time I am asking for help for myself. Everyone may remember me for raising funds for Nick and Nancy Oatway, last November. However, this time the table has turned and now I need help. Some of you know my story and if you don’t, I will give you a brief synopsis of how all of this came about. Last January, I was contacted by a friend, patient and customer of mine I have known for 6 years while I was in Oregon. The reason I was in Oregon is the previous year 2022, my mother who also lived here in Ojai died. I had to leave Ojai, because everything here reminded me of her and my son who moved to Oregon needed consoling as well asked me to go up there. I went up to Oregon after uprooting my entire life and business. After receiving the call from my friend in January of 2023 asking me if I would come back to California to fix up his home, as he was in hospice care and knew that he would not be around too much longer. He knew that in order for his family to get any money out of the sale of his home, it would need substantial work done on it. The home had not been maintained for nearly 30 years. He said I could live in the house until it went to escrow. I worked tirelessly on the house from 2/28/23 until 3/3/24. I was asked by probate to move out by 3/9/24. I was paid for my expenses to move and just a little more for an injury I sustained to my head while working on the property. I slipped of an aluminum ladder while trying shield a part of the house from the rain last March and I cracked my head open on flagstone that had been stacked in the backyard. Now my face will never be the same. However, the remaining monies won’t be paid until there is money from escrow. At this point, there haven’t been any offers on the house because the housing market has gone flat. I had to leave the property in a hurry, so I had to put my belongings in to storage. I couldn’t find a place to live only until the day before I was supposed to be out on the 3/9/24. I was counting on the money from escrow to carry me through while I looked for work any work. I have been looking and applying but it’s only been 3 weeks. I’m still waiting to hear back from people on jobs. However, now my rent is due $1950.00, my storage is due $295.00, my car insurance has been cancelled $100.00 probably more to reinstate and my phone has been suspended for non payment $52.00. I am severely stressed out. Even when I get a job it won’t pay me for around two weeks and I’m almost positive my paycheck won’t be enough to cover my expenses. I am facing homelessness, losing my personal belongings, my cell service and getting my car impounded, if caught driving without insurance. Also, my registration is due in April. I never ask anyone for help. Maybe my pride gets in the way. I have always worked hard to get anything in my life. Though now I am in financial upheaval and begging for help. I can’t sleep or eat because of my stress. Please, I have always done for others and now I’m asking for help. So far I have raised $276.00 and I am grateful for that.
